Op-ed: Priorities for Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer
March 11, 2025 // These reforms align with President Trump’s bold vision, exemplified by the reinstatement of Schedule F, to enhance accountability and performance in the federal workforce. They are not just about efficiency-they are about empowering federal employees to thrive while delivering exceptional service to Americans. Secretary Chavez-DeRemer has a chance to lead with principle, prioritizing worker autonomy over union influence. The time to act is now. On behalf of Americans for Fair Treatment, I stand ready to support her in unleashing the full potential of our federal workforce.
Op-Ed Andrew Holman: Union political spending doesn’t represent all their members
October 30, 2024 // Most of Pennsylvania’s public sector unions’ certifications date back to the 1970s, meaning many of their employees have never had the opportunity to vote on their representation. Without accountability, public sector unions are free to divert resources from representation toward partisan politics with no regard for members. The rank-and-file deserves better from their unions.
Commentary: 20 Years Later, Orange County is Still Dealing with ‘Legalized Corruption’
October 16, 2024 // Tom was not alone, of course. Too many of California’s 58 county boards of supervisors and 482 cities’ council members did – and still do – the same thing. And the liabilities are reflected when you review their annual comprehensive financial report rankings provided on the California Policy Center website. The lesson for voters is to elect individuals who have financial literacy, follow sound advice from accountants and actuaries, and emphasize timely transparency. Regretfully, too many are beholden to self-interested public employee union leaders who helped get them elected to their positions. And the annual comprehensive financial reports provide the accountability of the actions of prior elected officials. The impact of Wilson’s two votes will linger for decades.
Biden’s campaign plans to recognize a union organizing effort from its staff
February 26, 2024 // The move will trigger a collective bargaining effort between the reelection effort’s leadership and qualifying staff over conditions like salary, working hours and overtime pay. The union will represent staff in headquarters and based in battleground states. Biden’s staff union will affiliate with the Campaign Workers Guild, which has represented staff for a number of Democratic state parties and other campaigns. Members of the Democratic National Committee staff officially formed a union in 2022, joining the SEIU.
Delaware Legislature Wants To Subsidize Unions With Taxpayer Money
April 17, 2023 // Delaware’s state legislature has renewed a push to subsidize the state’s labor unions via tax credits. State Senator Nicole Poore (D-12) and House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst (D-15) have introduced Senate Bill 72 (SB 72) which seeks to provide union members with a $500 tax credit for their union dues. This $500 tax credit is believed to offset the annual dues incurred by union members and seeks to increase labor participation in unions. Furthermore, It should be noted that Both Senator Poore and Majority Leader Longhurst receive major campaign contributions from the same unions that gain with the passage of SB 72. Given that unions will oftentimes use the funds they receive from dues to fund the political campaigns of those legislators that seek to enact pro union legislation, the proposition of SB 72 represents a clear conflict of interest.

California: TRACKING POLITICAL SPENDING BY GOVERNMENT UNIONS
December 29, 2022 // To begin to get an idea of how difficult it is to track government union political spending in California from the ground up, monitoring every campaign, go to the California Secretary of State’s Campaign Finance website, select “Committees, Parties, Major Donors & Slate Mailers,” and enter the search term “teachers.” After you’ve eliminated the ones that are inactive and terminated, you will be staring down a list of 461 active recipient committees funded by state and local teachers unions. Examining the reports from these 461 committees formed by teachers unions quickly reveals how little we really know. Many of the incoming contributions come from other committees; many of the outgoing donations are to other committees. It is almost impossible to track the money coming in or going out to its ultimate source or destination.

February 28, 2022 // “Troubling patterns emerged with Brown’s actions that dismantled both transparency and democracy that members expect,” the vice presidents said in the letter. “Due to his actions, the three Vice Presidents had no alternative but to promptly step in to restore fiscal prudence, board oversight, democratic procedures, and the proper delegation of officers’ duties all required for our members’ benefit.”
