    Chicago Firefighters’ Union Casts “No Confidence” Vote Against CFD Leadership

    December 18, 2024 // The union representing Chicago's rank-and-file firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics unanimously voted Thursday that they no longer have confidence in leadership at the Chicago Fire Department, after going nearly 3 ½ years without a new contract. Chicago Fire Fighters Union Local 2 President Patrick Cleary confirmed the unanimous no-confidence vote on Thursday afternoon.

    Union workers reach a tentative deal with Kaiser Permanente after the largest-ever US health care strike

    October 13, 2023 // “The frontline healthcare workers of the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions are excited to have reached a tentative agreement with Kaiser Permanente,” the union coalition said on X. “We are thankful for the instrumental support of Acting US Labor Secretary Julie Su.” The company also thanked Su its tweet about the deal. “We are excited to have reached a tentative agreement with the frontline health care workers of the union coalition. We are thankful for the instrumental involvement of Acting U.S. Labor Secretary Su,” it said in its tweet. The strike last week lasted only three days, the length of time it had been scheduled to run. But the coalition of unions was threatening an eight-day strike next month with even more workers walking out if a new deal was not reached by October 31.

    June 30, 2023 // Attorneys argued that the workers should not be able to unionize and that they should be considered public employees due to the nature of the work and SMHCEMS’ status as a private company. The workers challenged that claim and won in a National Labor Relations Board hearing.

    July 29, 2022 // This comes after a CBS46 investigation exposed dangerously slow response times earlier this month. Grady’s average monthly response time for critical and emergent calls, according to state records, was between 22 and 29 minutes for the first five months of 2022. For less urgent calls, the average monthly response time was between 46 and 89 minutes. An Atlanta paramedic shared the above flyer with CBS46 investigative reporter Rachel Polansky.
