Public records show that the union spent tens of thousands of dollars on "advertising and promotion" between 2020 and 2022. During those three years, the union spent more than $183,000 on "advertising and promotion," which equates to roughly half of all the cash the union had by the end of 2022. Prior to that time, the union did not spend any money on advertising or promotion, according to filings from 2017 through 2019.

    New documents show TSA screeners illegally unionized, pro-worker group says

    February 11, 2025 // “During the Obama administration, the TSA administrator did an abrupt about-face, and TSA moved ahead with allowing screeners to unionize in violation of the law,” Dave Dorey, an attorney specializing in labor and employment law who represented AFFT, told the Washington Examiner. “Multiple administrators of TSA have stated publicly that TSA screeners are not covered by Title V, which includes significant rights for unionized workers — including the ability to file claims of unfair labor practices with an independent board and ultimately vindicate their rights in federal court. TSA screeners have none of these protections.”

    Union Corruption Case Exposes Missing Millions in Pennsylvania

    April 4, 2024 // In Pennsylvania, a union corruption case has revealed that officials misused $1.8 million in funds for a trust that remains unaccounted for, leading to the destruction of evidence regarding its existence. The case, initiated in 2020 by The Fairness Center on behalf of Cory Yedlosky, William Weyant, and Chris Taylor—three workers at a state prison—alleges the misappropriation of $20,000 by the treasurer of the local chapter of the Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers Association between 2009 and 2018. Despite raising concerns with union executive board members in Harrisburg, the workers’ complaints were disregarded. An internal forensic audit later revealed over $400,000 in credit charges for personal expenses by local and state union leaders, including a $12,000 Rolex, Miami Dolphins game tickets, $3,000 bar tabs, and luxury golf trips. In 2023, five senior union officials were charged with forgery and theft, with court orders to repay nearly $82,000, of which about $23,000 has been returned.

    Democrat Party’s Embrace of Union Tactics Emboldens Corruption

    February 9, 2024 // The Biden administration’s green-lighting of Big Labor’s thuggish tactics has only served to exacerbate union corruption. In 2023, the Office of Labor Management Standards (OLMS) conducted 155 criminal investigations into union activity, handing down 39 indictments and 57 convictions. Union crimes the OLMS prosecuted include petty theft, embezzlement, racketeering, and falsifying records.

    The Year of the Union…Corruption?

    February 1, 2024 // According to an annual report by the Office of Labor Management Standards (OLMS), over 155 criminal investigations into union-related activity were completed over the past year. As a result, the OLMS distributed 39 indictments and collected 57 convictions for numerous offenses ranging from petty theft to labor racketeering. While these findings are certainly disturbing, they likely only represent a drop in the bucket of national union corruption. This is because, according to the Department of Labor, it is simply “not feasible” to audit every union. Instead, forced to optimize limited resources against widespread corruption, the OLMS has developed an auditing methodology for unions whose “metrics suggest the possibility that there may have been criminal activity.” In 2023, the OLMS conducted 222 of these targeted audits, ultimately finding that 18.3% of these cases warranted criminal action. With nearly 1/5 of audits uncovering some form of wrongdoing, even in the limited sampling size permitted by OLMS resources, it is fair to say that corruption is entrenched within the American labor movement.

    Brotherhood of Shoe and Allied Craftsmen’s Andrea Anderson Charged with Embezzlement

    October 3, 2023 // On September 6, 2023, in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Andrea Anderson, former employee of the Brotherhood of Shoe and Allied Craftsmen (located in Lakeville, Mass.), was charged in a criminal information with one count of embezzlement from a labor organization in the approximate amount of $39,169, in violation of 29 U.S.C. 501(c). The charge follows an investigation by the OLMS Boston-Buffalo District Office

    On the Matter of Card Check, the Losers Are the Workers

    July 31, 2023 // Neutrality agreements and the card check process they enable deprive employees of information necessary for making informed decisions about unionization and worse, it opens the door to intimidation by taking away workers’ right to a secret ballot in union organizing elections. Neutrality agreements often require employers to accept a process called card check, which replaces NLRB-supervised secret ballot elections. Card check is an open petition process which leaves employees vulnerable to organizing campaigns that are rife with coercion and deception. Card check can fail to reflect employees' true wishes, undermining the democratic principles on which fair representation should be built. Examples of problems with card check include employees being told to sign a card simply to say they attended a union meeting or to get a free t-shirt. Worse, the study documented testimony from a February 8, 2007 U.S. House of Representatives Committee hearing which detailed that the United Auto Workers had “union employees from other facilities actually visit … employees at their homes. The union’s organizers refuse to take ‘no’ for an answer. ... Some employees have had 5 or more harassing visits from these union organizers.”
