April 18, 2024 // More than 4,000 VW workers are eligible to vote, beginning Wednesday and ending at 8 p.m. EDT on Friday. The organizing vote, which is being overseen by the National Labor Relations Board, will need a simple majority to succeed. Fain and others see this week's vote as the union's best shot at organizing the VW plant following the record contracts and strikes at the Detroit automakers, which launched Fain to international prominence as the face of the union last year.
UAW moves to hold unionization vote at Volkswagen plant in Tennessee
March 18, 2024 // The UAW said a supermajority of eligible Volkswagen workers signed union cards to call for the election at the Chattanooga plant. The facility is Volkswagen's only assembly plant in the U.S. and employs about 4,100 workers who make the Atlas and ID.4. The union added that it "is the only Volkswagen plant globally with no form of employee representation."

January 25, 2024 // Dillon Gorman, the business manager for IBEW 965, said he's organized and attended rallies all over the state at various companies, each time staying the required distance from the property, but offering to share more information with workers about what their options are as they leave or arrive at work. These days, it's easier to share information about unions, health care options, election information and more, as they can also easily share that online on the IBEW website. Gorman said they organized the rally in Wisconsin Rapids because workers at the Ocean Spray plant had reached out to the union for more information after they said the company recently changed some working conditions and benefit structures. On Wednesday, workers came from all over the state, including Eau Claire, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Beaver Dam and Janesville to show support.

November 14, 2023 // The Starbucks in Prosser is one of the most prominent in the Mid-Columbia because of its location next to Interstate 82. Workers there filed a petition with the NLRB to unionize in August and cast their first ballots a month later. As of Oct. 31, 2023, workers at 456 stores in 46 states have filed to be represented by Workers United, according to the union. Election results show workers at 364 stores chose to join the union and 82 voted not to join.

July 24, 2023 // In a weeks-long trial last year, federal prosecutors detailed how the finances of Local 1260 nosedived after Ahakuelo took over as business manager and financial secretary. In 2010, the union had a surplus of approximately $700,000, Gillmor noted. Four years later, it had a deficit of some $760,000. Prosecutors said Ahakuelo hired family members at salaries exceeding what union rules allowed. His wife, sister-in-law, son and his children’s spouses were all on the union’s payroll. Their pay contributed to the union’s salary expenses jumping by 150%, the judge said. Ahakuelo was emboldened by an inexperienced executive board, handpicked by Ahakuelo himself, that literally and figuratively handed him signed blank checks to spend as he wished, Gillmor said. Ahakuelo was also able to make unilateral decisions on travel. On several occasions, he brought an unnecessary entourage of family members and other employees on trips with dubious connections to union needs.
Nurses inch toward union vote amid GW Hospital’s alleged anti-union efforts

Tied vote stymies union effort at Lower East Side Trader Joe’s
April 24, 2023 // A two-day union vote at a Lower East Side Trader Joe’s ended in a tie, handing a loss to workers who supported the effort, the union announced Friday. The final vote at the Essex Crossing Trader Joe’s was 76-76, legally marking a win for the company, worker-led union Trader Joe’s United said in a news release. Despite the tie, however, worker-organizers at the store said they would continue to fight for a union.
Activision Blizzard wants all Diablo 4 employees to vote on unionizing
August 19, 2022 // The Post’s report says Blizzard’s lawyers showed a trailer of Diablo 4 in its arguments in an attempt to support their statement that everyone involved in the franchise’s development should have a vote in whether the campus should unionize. It didn’t mention what the rationale of showing this trailer in support of the argument was, though, nor did Blizzard explain why it made public the names and occupation status of several employees working on the project.
FRESNO STARBUCKS UNION VOTE FAILS
July 13, 2022 // Starbucks stores nationwide are unionizing one by one, but the recent vote for a Fresno store tallied unanimously against unionizing – even though the lead organizer sent in a “yes” vote. The National Labor Relations Board posted the union vote for Starbucks at 7010 N Marks Ave Ste. 105 in Fresno yesterday, counting 14 votes — all against unionizing with Starbucks Workers United. As lead organizer, Ben Takemoto has been the face of the movement for the store. He said his vote in favor of unionizing wasn’t counted.
