Several NYPD unions endorse Mayor Adams despite corruption allegations
July 20, 2025 // “Everybody running for office right now for the mayor… they all have plans on how they're going to reduce crime. Those are plans. We have action that has been working. Why do you want to change that?” John Nuthall, a spokesperson for the rank-and-file union, the Police Benevolent Association, said that body is not prepared to make an endorsement at this stage in the mayor’s race. “We have a separate process and we’re going through that process,” Nuthall said. He declined to say which candidate the PBA may be leaning toward endorsing.
Teamsters President Sean O’Brien eviscerates the Democratic Party: ‘They have f**** us over for the last 40 years’
October 8, 2024 // 'I'm a Democrat but they have f***** us over for the last 40 years and for once we're standing up as a union saying what the f*** have you done for us?' O'Brien said in scathing remarks. 'I'm getting attacked from the left you know and since I've been in office over two and a half years we've given the Democratic machine $15.7 million. 'We've given Republicans about $340,000 truth be told, so it's like you know people say the Democratic party is the party of working people, but they're actually bought and paid for by big tech,' O'Brien explained.
Harris secures support from union leaders. But workers are still weighing their options.
August 14, 2024 // A video message from Fain praising Walz on the union’s Facebook page elicited a tsunami of negative comments from factory workers across the country, many of whom voiced their support for the Republican ticket.
Labor groups begin to unite behind Harris’ campaign — but some holdouts remain
July 24, 2024 // Yet some notable union holdouts remain, suggesting Harris will still have some work to do to win over other working-class voters. On Monday, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), the biggest federation of unions in the U.S. and a longtime supporter of President Joe Biden, announced its endorsement of Harris.
Be Careful, Mr. Trump—Big Unions Aren’t Your Friend | Opinion
March 14, 2024 // Like virtually all his fellow union bosses, O'Brien is desperate to put an end to state Right to Work laws so that unions can force workers across the country to pay dues. That is why he's suggested to Trump that if he opposes Right to Work, an endorsement might be possible. So far, Trump hasn't taken the bait. Instead, he's simply making the case that O'Brien should endorse him because life was better for all workers under his administration. Most media reports about the Teamsters' RNC donation failed to mention that the same Teamsters PAC also sent checks to the Democratic National Committee's convention fund, the DNC Legal Fund, DNC Building Fund, and to both the Democrats' House and Senate campaign committees.
Commentary: The Georgia Model for Putting Workers’ Rights ahead of Union Demands
March 8, 2024 // The United Auto Workers’ endorsement of Joe Biden’s reelection was in large part payback for the president’s efforts to help organize southern automakers. The Biden administration has issued a slew of policies that will enable the UAW to make inroads at factories that have repeatedly rejected union representation. Most notably and recently, in its Cemex decision last August, the National Labor Relations Board made it easier for unions to ignore workplace elections while publicly intimidating workers into supporting unionization. Georgia is going in the opposite direction, putting workers’ rights ahead of union demands. It’s on the verge of enacting a law that would guarantee secret-ballot elections at automakers and parts manufacturers. The Peach State’s pending reform should spread nationwide.

Why is union support so important in politics?
March 5, 2024 // LaShawn English is the director for Region 1 of the UAW, and she said President Biden's support during their recent strike was critical. "We just came out of a strike. So 70% of Americans supported our strike, and we had a president who came out and supported our strike. So his actions pretty much swayed us in the way we needed to support someone because we wouldn't have won the things that we have," said English. English and her members have met with President Biden and had the opportunity to talk with him, and she said those interactions only solidified her support for the president. She has said she would "run through a wall" for him, and that there is nothing he could do that would change her support for the president.
Broward school board approves teacher contract amid discord
March 4, 2024 // The board on Tuesday voted 6 to 3 to approve the contract, but before the vote, board member Torey Alston said there was “blatant corruption” in the process, saying the union endorsed board members who pledged to support the package, accusing unnamed colleagues on the board of colluding with the union. “School board members were talking to the president of the BTU potentially about items discussed in closed sessions, I think a third party needs to examine the communications that occurred between the board members, staff, and the BTU president,” Alston said during the school board meeting.
UAW president Shawn Fain on labor’s comeback: “This is what happens when workers get power”
February 26, 2024 // Volkswagen worker Shaun Lawler says skepticism of the UAW runs deep in the community. When asked how his family views unions, he replied, "They don't see it as a good opportunity; they see layoffs." What do they call unions? "They call them communist," Lawler said.
Teamsters donate $45,000 to RNC, records show
February 22, 2024 // The RNC denied receiving the donation in a statement to The Hill. The Teamsters union has not endorsed any presidential candidate for 2024 and has continued to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democratic causes in recent months, according to FEC filings, but the RNC donation helps buoy an organization that has struggled to fundraise in the 2024 cycle.
