Apple to shutter its first unionized US store in Maryland
April 12, 2026 // The iPhone maker described the decision as "difficult", citing the departure of several retailers and worsening conditions at the Towson Town Center mall as key reasons for the closure. Apple said Towson employees will be eligible to apply for open roles at the company. October 2, 2025 // The U.S. labor board has withdrawn its allegations that Apple CEO Tim Cook violated federal labor law and several other claims, Bloomberg News reported on Friday. The office of the general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board said it was withdrawing many of the claims in a complaint it had issued against Apple in January, the report said, citing a letter.

The firm's chair, Jami McKeon, in a statement said that Carey's "background, experience, judgment, and training make her highly qualified for this important role, and we are excited for her on this well-deserved nomination.” Lucas, a former Gibson Dunn & Crutcher associate, was first appointed to the EEOC by Trump in 2020. She was a dissenting Republican voice on the Democrat-led board until Trump made her acting chair and named her chief of staff, Andrew Rogers, as acting general counsel.
Workday lays off 1,750 employees, or about 8.5% of its workforce
February 5, 2025 // Workday is cutting about 1,750 jobs, or 8.5% of its workforce. In a Wednesday memo to employees, published in a securities filing, Workday CEO Carl Eschenbach said the layoffs were necessary for ongoing growth efforts at the company — including a particular focus on artificial intelligence investments.
Democrats make last stand for unions ahead of Trump administration
November 15, 2024 // In a final push to bolster union rights ahead of a Trump presidency, the National Labor Relations Board on Wednesday banned employers nationwide from forcing workers to attend antiunion meetings. Separately, Democrats are also deploying a last-ditch effort to try to get the Senate to reconfirm NLRB Chair Lauren McFerran in the last December session, allowing the agency to maintain a Democratic majority and continue its labor-friendly rulings into the next Trump administration.

July 30, 2024 // Apple has about 270 Apple stores in the United States, which are all owned by the company. Only one other store, in Oklahoma City, has voted to unionize, joining a different union, the Communications Workers of America. That store is not covered by this tentative labor deal.
Apple’s Maryland store workers vote to authorize strike
May 13, 2024 // Workers at Apple ’s store in Towson, Maryland, have voted in favor of authorizing a strike, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (AIM) said in a statement late on Saturday. The date for work stoppage has yet to be decided, according to the union, which represents Apple’s retail store workers in Maryland.

April 12, 2024 // According to the unionization committee at Apple Short Hills in New Jersey, the group has asked Apple not to interfere in the efforts and to allow employees “to freely determine for themselves whether to form a union.” Apple responded by saying that it’s “dedicated to providing an excellent experience” for its customers and teams.
