University of Minnesota doctors file to unionize with country’s largest doctors’ union

UVM and grad student union continue legal clash over union size
February 26, 2025 // The latest twist in the legal battle came Friday, when the Vermont Supreme Court reversed a ruling by the Vermont Labor Relations Board that affirmed the rights of predoctoral fellows and predoctoral trainees at UVM to join Graduate Students United. Predoctoral fellows and trainees are graduate students who often teach and perform research for the university, but receive outside financial support for their work, usually through grants and stipends. They represent almost one-tenth of the 600 member union.

BU grad workers vote to strike Monday
March 22, 2024 // The Boston University graduate workers union voted Wednesday to go on strike Monday afternoon if they do not reach a contract agreement with the university. The union, which represents roughly 3,000 graduate student workers at BU, voted last week to authorize the strike after a longstanding battle with the university over fair pay and stronger benefits, including health care coverage and child care assistance.
96% of nurse residents, fellows vote to unionize at Ascension hospital in Texas
January 7, 2024 // Nurse residents and fellows at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (Texas) voted Jan. 3 to unionize and join the National Nurses Organizing Committee, an affiliate of National Nurses United. Nearly all 225 nurse residents and fellows — 96% — voted in favor of doing so.
