Troy-Based Eaton Corporation Worker Challenges IAM Union Scheme Pushing Termination, Fines on Workers Who Oppose Union
January 10, 2025 // An employee of power management firm Eaton Corporation’s Troy, Illinois, facility has just filed federal charges against the International Association of Machinists (IAM) union for violating the rights of multiple employees at his workplace. The employee, Robert Jacobs, maintains that IAM officials are threatening to get him and other employees who resigned union membership fired unless they pay a so-called “reinstatement fee” concocted by the union. Jacobs filed his charges at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) with free legal aid from National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation staff attorneys.

January 9, 2025 // Every year, millions of dollars in dues paid by rank-and-file union members are collected by labor organizations and passed off to the family members of union bosses in the form of lucrative salaries, a Washington Examiner review of public records has found. Union bosses regularly employ close family relatives, such as children and spouses, in high-paying roles within their unions. Some of these roles pay hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. While union leadership has splurged on handsome salaries for their family members, and political expenditures intended to boost the Democratic Party, private union membership has continued its downward trend in recent years.

Boeing strike ends as workers accept new contract
November 5, 2024 // Boeing has said the average annual machinists' pay at the end of the new four-year contract will be $119,309, up from $75,608 previously. The pay increase may add $1.1 billion to Boeing's wage bill over the four years, while a $12,000 ratification bonus for each union member could result in another $396 million in outflows, according to analysts at Jefferies. More than 26,000 union members voted, putting turnout near 80%.

October 16, 2024 // Analysts at Anderson Economic Group estimated that the first month of Boeing's 33,000-worker strike, which started on September 13, cost the company and workers $5 billion. The last strike, in 2008, shuttered plants for eight weeks and hit revenue by an estimated $100 million per day. In regulatory filings Tuesday, Boeing announced plans to raise up to $35 billion. That includes a $10 billion credit agreement, while it may also sell up to $25 billion of securities.
