November 14, 2024 // Stephen Lamar, CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association, told CNBC it is relieved operations will resume at Canada’s three busiest ports and hopes a long-term, mutually beneficial agreement comes out of the negotiations. “The lockouts of the Canadian ports were causing ships to divert and contributing to congestion and delays throughout North America. As Canada faces reduced rail capacity from mandatory winter train length safety restrictions, and the U.S. West Coast faces two-year high rail dwell times, further disruptions would greatly strain the transportation networks,” Lamar said.

November 12, 2024 // Moreno did try to save jobs back in 2018 when General Motors announced it would permanently close its Lordstown Assembly plant in northeast Ohio, which built the Chevrolet Cruze sedan. As the Free Press reported in 2019, Moreno met with GM leaders, proposing to buy 150,000 to 180,000 Cruze cars to start a global ride-hailing company similar to Uber. GM CEO Mary Barra rejected the idea. GM shuttered Lordstown that spring.
Lambeau Field workers win first union contract
November 7, 2024 // The beer vendors are employed by Delaware North, the food and beverage provider for the stadium. The Milwaukee Area Service & Hospitality Workers Union, or MASH, represents more than 90 people who serve beer and other beverages at Lambeau. The union said 88 percent of the vendors voted to approve a tentative three-year collective bargaining agreement that was negotiated with Delaware North.

October 30, 2024 // United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2209 is set to hold a critical vote on Wednesday regarding a potential strike at General Motors’ Fort Wayne Assembly Plant in Indiana. The plant produces full-size trucks, including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The vote stems from ongoing tensions between the union and GM over how temporary workers are treated at the facility. The union’s leadership has expressed frustration over GM’s decision to lay off approximately 250 temporary workers at the end of September following an inability to reach an agreement to extend their employment

San Francisco luxury hotel employees join worker’s strike
October 22, 2024 // This is the fifth major hotel to join the strike, including Grand Hyatt San Francisco Union Square, Hilton San Francisco Union Square, San Francisco Marriott Union Square and Westin St. Francis. The union said almost 2,000 San Francisco hotel workers have joined the strike. The employees include housekeepers, bellhops, cooks, dishwashers, servers, bartenders and other positions.
