The latest: Hotel workers at the Hilton-owned Embassy Suites in Pioneer Square have applied for the benefits and expect to start receiving them next week, their union, Unite Here Local 8, tells Axios.

July 15, 2026 // The DOJ is probing claims that Fain pressured a union official to provide financial benefits to his fiancee and a workers’ compensation claim for her sister, according to Bloomberg. Fain then allegedly punished UAW Vice President Rich Boyer for not approving the benefits by taking away Boyer’s position as lead negotiator with automaker Stellantis. Last month, Barofsky, the court-appointed monitor for the union, released a report about the accusations against Fain. “The Monitor’s investigation substantiated the claim that President Fain acted improperly to obtain financial benefits for his fiancée, and that Vice President Boyer’s failure to approve the bonus may have contributed to Fain’s retaliatory action against him,” Barofsky wrote.
JTRAN bus operators strike as contract talks break down
July 13, 2026 // JTRAN bus operators in Jackson, Mississippi, went on strike after contract negotiations with MV Transportation failed. The union accuses the company of unfair labor practices, while the city is working to minimize service disruptions for riders. MV Transportation has brought in out-of-state drivers to continue operating as many bus routes as possible. This is the second strike by JTRAN workers in less than two years, following a 14-day walkout in 2024.
Mass General Brigham sends cease-and-desist to Nurses Association over ‘significant noise’ related to strike
July 13, 2026 // Mass General Brigham sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Massachusetts Nurses Association Friday over “significant noise” related to the nurses and technician’s strike that began Wednesday, the healthcare company announced. In a statement, Mass General Brigham wrote, “We have heard concerns from patients, families, visitors, staff, and nearby residents about the significant noise and activity outside the hospital, particularly overnight. Because this disruption is affecting residents and the hospital’s healing environment and creating challenges for patients and care teams, this afternoon we sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Massachusetts Nurses Association regarding excessive noise and other disruptive activities associated with the picketing, and we will be sharing a letter of apology with our neighbors.
Nurses, home care clinicians launch large-scale strike in Boston
