These Republicans keep undermining Trump. This week proves it
June 11, 2026 // Specifically, the Faster Labor Contracts Act would empower a federal agency that Trump has called to eliminate. It could then impose a collective bargaining agreement on workers if the union and employer don’t reach an agreement within three months. But the workers wouldn’t even get a vote, fundamentally gutting workplace democracy. As Trump’s administration said in 2020, “Involuntary contracts that do not work for employees or their employers could force layoffs or even bankruptcies — ultimately, harming workers.” This bill is one of the Democrats’ top priorities. It should never be a priority for any Republican. Several of these Republicans pulled a similar stunt in January, when they killed House leadership’s plan to vote on the Save Local Business Act. The bill would have prevented a heavy-handed mandate from the Obama and Biden years that put many franchises, subcontractors, and small businesses at risk of layoffs or even closure. Yet LaLota said that he and his colleagues would only support a watered-down version. Trump has proposed a regulation that’s similar in intent to the legislation that was killed, yet by refusing to support the bill, these Republicans are all but ensuring that a future Democrat president will overturn this necessary reform.

It has also opposed the Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Department of Labor disclosures logged on June 30, 2025, reveal that the union spent $1.2 million of members’ dues at the Salamander Hotel to cover a series of expenses labeled as "support for political activities." The One Big Beautiful Bill Act served as the cornerstone of Trump's second-term economic agenda. While supporters touted tax breaks for service workers and small business owners, critics argued cuts to health and food subsidies would harm less affluent Americans. This disagreement sparked fierce opposition, including the SEIU's seven-figure protest campaign, though Trump ultimately signed the bill into law on 4th of July weekend 2025.
S.F. begins to lay off 127 workers as Mayor Lurie takes ‘painful but necessary’ steps to close deficit
April 8, 2026 // Among the 18 departments affected by the layoffs are the departments of public health and economic and workforce development. The City Administrator’s Office and the Human Services Agency are also affected, as are civilian roles in the Police Department. It wasn’t immediately clear exactly how many jobs were being eliminated from every affected department. The layoffs are likely to further inflame tensions between Lurie and some of the city’s most dominant public-sector labor unions. He already had a major disagreement with those groups over Proposition D, a June ballot measure they are pushing to raise taxes on companies with highly-paid executives.
20K NYC nurses warn they will go on strike in just 10 days amid high stakes dispute
January 5, 2026 // A spokesperson for Mount Sinai gave some clue as to the wage ask for that hospital. “After only a day of working with a mediator at one of our hospitals, NYSNA is yet again threatening to force nurses to walk away from patients’ bedsides – this time while continuing to insist on increasing average nurse pay by $100,000,” the spokesperson said. Any strike would be “irresponsible,” especially because the hospitals would have to spend tens of millions of dollars to bring in outside nurses, said Kenneth Raske, president of the Greater New York Hospital Association.
GOP senator, labor secretary visit Louisiana alligator farm touting new pro-worker legislation
August 16, 2025 // Fresh off helping pass that bill, Cassidy is championing his pro-worker legislation, the Unlocking Benefits for Independent Workers Act, introduced last month with senators Tim Scott, R-S.C., and Rand Paul, R-Ky. The bill seeks to modernize federal labor laws, granting gig workers and independent contractors access to health benefits, paid sick leave and retirement plans, among other provisions.
Another 200 Legacy Nurses Join Oregon Nurses Association (AFT affiliate)
July 20, 2025 // The new members work in Legacy’s “resource pool,” meaning they rotate among hospitals, filling in as needed in various departments. They filed union authorization cards with the National Labor Relations Board in May and voted 109-16 to join the ONA on July 8, according to the NLRB. Including the new members, more than 3,200 Legacy nurses are now part of the ONA. The surge marks a turnaround for organized labor at Legacy, where unions have had far less clout than at Oregon Health & Science University. The union has been adding members at Legacy since August 2023, when OHSU announced its intent to buy Legacy, a deal that was supported by union leaders before it collapsed in May. The vote by resource pool nurses shows that union membership is still enticing as Legacy goes it alone.
