UAW member wants federal monitor to investigate local president
December 20, 2025 // A member of UAW Local 6000, based in Lansing, Mich., has asked a federal court-appointed monitor to investigate the local's president, Rachael Dickinson, for alleged corruption and retaliation. An internal UAW investigation found Dickinson engaged in a pattern of discrimination toward minority women, including stripping elected leaders of their duties. The request compares Dickinson's alleged actions to those of UAW International President Shawn Fain, who is also under investigation by the monitor for retaliation.
UAW president’s chief of staff to leave the union following federal monitor report
December 19, 2025 // A key United Auto Workers strategist and architect of the union’s 2023 auto-factory strike is leaving the labor group, after a report by the federal monitor overseeing the UAW concluded that he was part of a campaign to improperly remove duties from another union leader. Chris Brooks, chief of staff to UAW President Shawn Fain, will no longer be employed by the union as of December 31, according to a report released on Thursday by the monitor’s office.

December 2, 2025 // The potential new union chapter at the Met is with the Technical, Office, and Professional Union, Local 2110, part of the United Automobile Workers (UAW) union. The museum does have union chapters for projectionists and audio/visual technicians with Local 306 IATSE, and for about 700 security guards with Local 1503, part of DC 37, and there has previously been an attempt to establish a wall-to-wall union bringing all staff together in one chapter.

NYC legal aid union settles with lawyers who claimed anti-Israel bias
November 20, 2025 // A union representing New York-based legal aid lawyers said Thursday it will pay $315,000 to settle claims that it tried to retaliate against three of its members after they challenged the union's issuance of a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and "an end to Israeli apartheid." As part of the settlement, the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys, UAW Local 2325, will issue a statement acknowledging that "some of the communications" around the discussion of the resolution in November and December 2023 "were hurtful to union members and inappropriate."
National Right to Work Foundation Sues UCLA Over Public Records Request for Union “Strategic Research” Workshops
November 20, 2025 // Both events about which the Foundation requested information dealt with so-called “strategic research,” a tactic that “prioritizes gathering targeted information” to find new businesses and workers on which to launch unionization campaigns or other campaigns. The events, titled the “UCLA Strategic Labor Research Conference” and “Private Equity Research Strategies,” both had heavy political overtones as well, with the former drawing attendees “working outside labor in adjacent social movements, like climate change, food justice and housing,” according to UCLA’s website. Both gatherings took place between April and August of 2024.
Met Museum Workers Move to Unionize
November 20, 2025 // On Monday morning, a labor union petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to approve a bargaining unit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that would cover roughly 1,000 salaried and hourly workers across the museum’s sectors. If the vote passes, the Met would rank among the largest unionized museums in the nation.
UAW monitor warns of “toxic culture” amid leadership challenges
November 18, 2025 // The UAW’s court-appointed monitor issued a stern warning Friday, Nov. 14, saying the union must take meaningful reform seriously or face the risk of corruption and abuse returning. Neil Barofsky, the monitor overseeing the union under a consent decree since 2021, cited a “toxic culture of division and retaliation at the highest levels,” singling out union President Shawn Fain and close allies. Barofsky’s report, filed in federal court, details both serious challenges and some positive steps the union has made toward reform. The monitor emphasized that failure to act could extend federal oversight beyond its scheduled end in 2027.
