January 11, 2026 // The employees at Breads, a spinoff of a Tel Aviv bakery with six outposts in New York City, say “over 30%” of the company’s 275 workers signed cards in support of the union, which will be represented by United Auto Workers. They are alleging poor working conditions, low and unfair pay, and a lack of “respect” from management.
Nurses at 7 New York hospitals reach tentative deals, cancel strike notice
January 8, 2026 // NYSNA-represented nurses at New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health’s Huntington, Plainview and Syosset hospitals also delivered 10-day strike notices Jan. 2 and are set to strike Jan. 12 if tentative agreements are not reached.

January 5, 2026 // A spokesperson for Mount Sinai gave some clue as to the wage ask for that hospital. “After only a day of working with a mediator at one of our hospitals, NYSNA is yet again threatening to force nurses to walk away from patients’ bedsides – this time while continuing to insist on increasing average nurse pay by $100,000,” the spokesperson said. Any strike would be “irresponsible,” especially because the hospitals would have to spend tens of millions of dollars to bring in outside nurses, said Kenneth Raske, president of the Greater New York Hospital Association.

December 30, 2025 // The bargaining committees are allowed to call a strike if contracts at the 15 facilities aren’t settled by Wednesday, December 31. Northwell Health claims they can’t afford to meet nurses’ salary demands, despite acquiring Nuvance Health this year. Reports show Northwell increased patient prices after each of its 21 acquisitions.

November 23, 2025 // The district has said it doesn’t have sufficient funding, citing a budget deficit that has put it at risk of state takeover. The district plans to withdraw $13 million from reserve funds to cover the projected deficit for this school year. The union’s demands include a 10% increase in salary over two years, full medical benefits coverage, and reductions in class sizes. The district initially offered no increase in salary or in the percentage of benefits it pays, but then offered a 2% salary increase and a bump in its health coverage from 80% to 85%, which the union rejected.

Workers at 4 Popular Bay Area Rock Climbing Gyms Win Unionization Vote
September 11, 2025 // Workers at some of the Bay Area’s most popular rock climbing gyms have voted to unionize, joining colleagues at five gyms in Southern California that are in contract negotiations with their employer, Touchstone Climbing. Employees of Mission Cliffs and Dogpatch Boulders in San Francisco, as well as The Studio in San Jose and Diablo Rock Gym in Concord, won their unionization votes on Monday night.
