The Faster Labor Contracts Act violates the principles of voluntary agreement

June 8, 2026 // Most troublingly, the bill would do real harm to the very workers its supporters claim to help. Workers are often told that unionizing will give them a greater voice in the workplace. They are promised a seat at the table and a meaningful role in shaping the terms and conditions of their employment. But under the Faster Labor Contracts Act, workers would lose one of the most important forms of workplace democracy — the right to vote on the contract that governs their jobs. That loss of voice has far-reaching implications: In an industry that supports 55 million working Americans, it affects not only retail workers but also the employers that depend on a stable and collaborative workforce. If bargaining reaches the FLCA’s deadline, workers would be shut out of the process entirely. They would have no right to ratify the agreement, no right to reject it, no right to demand changes, and no meaningful ability to influence the final outcome.

Unions, nonprofits challenge FEMA staffing cuts in court

January 29, 2026 // Their court challenge filed Tuesday evening alleges DHS and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem are breaking the law by directing the termination of hundreds of FEMA employees. The complaint alleges those actions violate the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act of 2006, which gave FEMA more autonomy and restricts the DHS secretary’s ability to make sweeping overhauls and staff reductions at the emergency management agency.

WSJ Op-ed: Republicans for Federal Worker Collective Bargaining

December 15, 2025 // The 20 GOP union abettors are Don Bacon (Neb.), Mike Bost (Ill.); Brian Fitzpatrick, Robert Bresnahan and Ryan Mackenzie (Pa.); Gabe Evans (Colo.); Andrew Garbarino, Nick LaLota, Michael Lawler, Nicole Malliotakis (N.Y.); David Joyce and Michael Turner (Ohio); Thomas Kean Jr., Christopher Smith and Jefferson Van Drew (N.J.); Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zachary Nunn (Iowa); Pete Stauber (Minn.); David Valadao (Calif.) and Derrick Van Orden (Wis.). Many of these Republicans represent swing districts, but making government less efficient and responsive to the American people is unlikely to help them win re-election.

Weingarten Called out for Perjury During House Oversight Hearing

May 5, 2023 // Even far-left mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot told CNN this week, Weingarten’s claims were “not the reality” of what unfolded under her reign. Congress must hold this radical union boss accountable for not only her crimes against children during the pandemic, but for committing perjury in the process of denying her nefarious actions.

Labor unions expand into legislator offices

January 23, 2023 // “Unionizing staffers in legislative offices makes no sense because it creates more problems than it solves,” says Brigette Herbst, senior organizing director for AFFT and a former state legislative staffer, “How does unionization work with the long and unpredictable hours during a legislative session? How will elected officials handle untrustworthy staffers? Union organizers haven’t answered these important questions.” Labor unions have also turned their focus to legislative staffers at the state level.

Republicans to End Unionizing Congressional Offices

January 4, 2023 // “Last year, House Democrats voted to let congressional offices organize and collectively bargain for the first time, despite some nagging logistical questions about how it’d all work. But that measure will be revoked under that rules package the GOP is getting ready to introduce when it takes over this week; none of the offices that voted to unionize last year will be recognized in the new House.”

Democrats Say Secret Ballot for Me, Card Check for Thee

May 17, 2022 // Instead, unions want to organize employees via “card check,” a coercive process whereby organizers confront employees individually and relentlessly, at work and at home, until they sign a petition card. If the union can collect cards from half of the workforce, it gets certified without a vote.

Does Democrats’ support for unions extend to their own employees?

April 22, 2022 // The CWU, a group of staffers that launched a union drive earlier this year, wants the House to vote on a resolution guaranteeing staffers protections as soon as next week. Currently, the Congressional Accountability Act allows staffers to organize, but doesn’t offer them any shield from retaliation, meaning staffers could be fired and blacklisted if they do so. Thus far, Pelosi’s office has not commented on when a floor vote could be scheduled on the resolution.

OPINION JEDYNAK: Helping Women Thrive Post-COVID

March 27, 2022 // As our nation recovers from COVID-19 and sees a return to normalcy, it is important to support women and ensure we all have meaningful career choices and affordable childcare and can be financially secure against rising inflation. Congress’ current proposals would reduce the choices available to women and hinder our ability to use our talents in the labor force. We know best how to care for our family and professional lives — not the government. Americans should reject these heavy-handed measures in favor of promoting freedom and opportunity.
